Acts of Connection

Loneliness is more than just a feeling; it's a growing epidemic.

According to the US Surgeon General 2023 Report on Loneliness, nearly half of all U.S. adults experience loneliness and isolation. The impact of social isolation is equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day. These feelings of disconnect can affect anyone, regardless of age or background, and they are far more widespread than many of us realize. In a world where it's increasingly easy to feel alone, the need for genuine connection has never been more important.

As human beings, we are biologically wired to connect with others. Our brains have evolved to thrive on closeness and community. When we lack these vital connections, it takes a toll on our health and wellbeing—just like missing out on oxygen, food, water, or shelter. Loneliness signals that we need more meaningful connections—whether with ourselves, others, through enriching activities, a sense of purpose, or being part of a safe community.

This is where Acts of Connection comes in. North Range is proud to partner with this initiative by Thriving Weld, to address the challenge of social isolation right here in Weld County. The campaign invites each of us to find new ways to connect, build relationships, and foster a stronger sense of wellbeing and community.

Acts of Connection aims to:

  • Increase awareness of social isolation
  • Change the way social connection and loneliness are perceived in Weld County
  • Drive action toward and increase opportunities for connection
  • Promote values of kindness, respect, service, and commitment to each other
  • Create community through shared support networks
  • Encourage and amplify local activities and events that increase belonging in Weld County
  • Reduce poor mental health and suicide rates through the power of social connection

Each of us plays a part in creating a connected community. It all starts with building strong, meaningful relationships so that no one feels alone. Look for opportunities to engage with your neighbors—introduce yourself, join in on local events, or simply say hello to someone you pass on your morning walk. Reaching out to a friend you haven't spoken to in a while or trying something new in our community can make a world of difference.
